July 2008 events week commencing Tuesday 1st


Connie Talbot from Streetly has been busy touring the world and singing with celebrities. More details on Connie Talbot's web page You can listen to the "Three little birds" track above, at such a tender young age, Connie has established her self as a world class singer.

Every Tuesday...Organised Walks in Blackwood Park, Streetly
walks will be taking place at Blackwood Park off Blackwood Road, Streetly every Tuesday afternoon. Walkers need to meet at the Park Pavillion at 2.00pm for a 2.15pm start. The walk will last about 30 minutes covering a distance of approximately a mile which makes it ideal for beginners and people new to activity.Streetly Walks in Blackwood Park

Volunteer walk leaders are desparately needed. Perhaps you or a group of friends would be able to help?

A regular event held on the second Wednesday of each month from 10 - 12. Everyone is welcome regardless of religious denomination. Come and have a chat and find out what is going on in your neighbourhood.

Saturday 12th July 2008 "Race for Life" at 11am Streetly Gate, Sutton Park
Race Event Information, the 2008 Cancer Research UK, Race for Life event at Sutton Park, Streetly, Sutton Coldfield,raises money to help save lives, so please come along and take part and help us smash our fundraising target of £256000 - and have a great time with family and friends too!

The event starts at 11:00, but please make sure you arrive an hour before so that you can take part in the pre-race event warm-up. Our 5km course will take you round Sutton Park , and the surrounding areas. It's a fantastic location, and this year we are hoping to see 4000 women run, jog or walk the course to help more people survive cancer.

To prevent congestion we strongly recommend you use public transport or car share to get to the venue. You may find the following websites and phone numbers useful for travel information:

Parking is available off the Streetly Gate entrance on Thornhill Road.

A drop off point for all participants is at the Boldmere gate entrance off Monmouth Drive.

Help keep our Cancer Research UK charity shops well stocked by dropping off unwanted clothes, CDs, DVDs and books at the Donation Station marquee at your event. It could be worth an extra £30 towards our life saving work.

Saturday July 12 at 8pm, The New Streetly Youth Orchestra will be performing a collection of music from popular movies and musicals, at Holy Trinity (C of E) Parish Church. Highlights will include selections from The Phantom of the Opera, Harry Potter, High School Musical, Hairspray and the latest West End sensation Wicked!
The orchestra offers the opportunity for young musicians to learn new skills and boost their confidence through regular performances. 
The concert will be conducted by Ed Harrison, Ian Myatt and Richard Commander and will feature a number of pieces arranged exclusively for the orchestra by local musician Claire  Peplow.

Wednesday 16 th July meeting of Streetly Local History Group from 10 a.m. - 12.00 noon at Blackwood Church Hall and we will be discussing Memorabilia, which we hope members will bring to the meeting. see more information on Local History Society page

In an bid to reduce isolation amongst elderly residents and to promote community spirit for all local residents, Health watch is helping expand what is already a flourishing local history group. Our meetings are well attended and so please come along and join us..

Streetly will also be setting up its very pages with your personal recollections, stories and snippets of local social history, which may include pictures or even the facilty to record your words with an oral historian.

Streetly website attracts visitors from every part of the world including people who once lived in the local area and now live far away including overseas, but wish to leave messages and memories for friends on new pages being prepared for Streetly website, contact us if you wish to be included.

The aim of this form is to report details regarding any "one-off issue" that a resident of Aldridge South or Streetly may choose. This information will be logged with a unique reference number.
